Supporting local and world-wide missions by providing monetary grants is the work of the Outreach Ministry. Funds are made available from the parish’s General Fund, special gifts & projects and proceeds from St. John’s Thrift Shoppe.
Recipients of these monetary grants are recommended by the Outreach Ministry and approved by Vestry. All organizations are individually investigated and monitored by the Ministry to make sure their needs meet certain outreach criteria. (In accordance with their By-Laws, the Thrift Shoppe funds are restricted to local charities).
For the past several years, our parish has supported a “Feeding the 5,000” project which provides bags of groceries for local food pantries for the needy.
In 2008, the Ministry extended $75,000 in grants to these charities:
- Baby Basics of Collier County
- Collier Pregnancy Center
- Fun Time Nursery
- Grace Place
- Guadalupe Center
- Habitat for Humanity
- Immokalee Child Care Center
- Immokalee Friendship House
- Laces of Love
- Neighborhood Health Clinic
- Project Help
- Salvation Army
- Shelter for Abused Women
- St. Matthews House
- Step-By-Step
- Youth Haven
